2. Fire Station

The fire station

Use of the building 1939–1945

Well-trained and adequate fire protection was of great importance

on the arsenal grounds. This was provided by a factory fire department consisting of two platoons,

which took turns on 24-hour duty.

The building was a modern fire station with hose washing facilities and a hose drying tower, which also served as a fire observation tower.

Water was supplied by 83 hydrants within the arsenal and 13 outside the complex, as well as 15 pipe wells. Plans were made to construct special firefighting ponds, but these were not completed before the end of the war. The fire department could be alerted by 16 fire alarms located throughout the site.

The fire department's equipment is listed in the following inventory:

2 crew trucks with motor pumps, each with a capacity of 800 liters/min., 2 rail vehicles with

motor pumps, each with a capacity of 800 liters/min., 1 trailer with a motor pump with a capacity of 400 liters/min. ,

6000 m of hemp hoses in the hydrant boxes on the premises, 2325 m of C hoses,

930 m of B hoses, 731 hand-held fire extinguishers, 70 forest fire extinguishers, 6 comet pipes for

foam extinguishers, 2 chainsaws, 14 army breathing apparatus, 2 resuscitation devices.

An extendable Magirus ladder (23 m) was also part of the fire department's equipment.
